Trainer Battles Coming to Pokémon Go Soon!
After months of rumours and speculation, Niantic has announced that Trainer Battles will soon be coming to Pokémon Go, which will go live sometime this month. Using a Battle Code, with a team of your three chosen Pokémon, you’ll be able to battle against a friend or a stranger to see who the greatest Pokémon Trainer is. Once the battle is over with, both players will receive rewards, which could include “rare Evolution items.”
However, before players can jump into battles, you first must compete in a Trainer Battle League, which will determine the level of Pokémon you will be able to battle against. This should eliminate the possibility of you being thrown into battles that you have no hope of winning. Also, the battles won’t be turn-based, but instead they will be in real-time, so don’t go waiting for your turn, because you’ve got to tap the hell out of that screen and ensure that you launch the best strategic attacks in order to win.
During the battle, you’ll also be able to deploy a Protect Shield which will help protect you from critical damage, but you must use them wisely, as you only have a limited number of shields per battle. In most cases, and especially against random players (who must also have a matching battle code), players must be within a certain distance from one-another to battle. However, Ultra and Best Friends will be able to challenge each other, no matter the distance.
If you’re unsure on how these Trainer Battles will work, you’ll be able to practice against AI Trainers, Spark, Candela and Blanche. However, not only will these practice battles help you to learn the ropes, but you can also earn rewards with them once per day, which includes rewards such as Stardust, and you’ll eventually be able to earn an Ace Trainer medal for your efforts.
