Following last week’s official tease from 2K (and the leaks that followed), the Mafia Trilogy has been officially revealed with trailers, screenshots and added details.

Mafia: Definitive Edition is built from the ground-up on a new engine, Mafia II: Definitive Edition has received the 4K remaster treatment and Mafia III: Definitive Edition has been re-introduced, which is a shame as I was expecting the gameplay and mission structure to be tweaked at least. But it’s been a few years since I have played Mafia III, so I’m good for giving it another chance.

Both Mafia II: Definitive Edition and Mafia III: Definitive Edition are available now, while Mafia: Definitive Edition will be available on August 28th.  Each of the three Definitive Editions are available individually or you can buy them as a collection, with the remake being available on the August release date.

Both Mafia II and Mafia III: Definitive Edition’s will come with all previously released DLC and if you link your account to My2K, you’ll also get some bonus cosmetic items for all three games.  Mafia: Definitive Edition will gift you with the “Black Cats Motorcycle Pack”, Mafia II: Definitive Edition with the “Made Man Pack” and Mafia III: Definitive Edition with the “Classico Three-Piece Suits & IL Duca Revolver”.

For me, its Mafia: Definitive Edition that I am most looking forward too, especially as I never played the original on PS2 or the Xbox from 2002. However, Mafia: Definitive Edition is not just a game built from the ground up, because it will also feature an updated script, expanded back-stories, additional cut-scenes, new gameplay sequences, missions and more.

As an added bonus, for those that pre-order Mafia: Definitive Edition or purchase the Trilogy, you will receive The Chicago Outfit Pack, which includes “The Don” outfit, “Smith V12 Limousine” vehicle and a “Gold Semi-Automatic” weapon skin.

While I feel it’s a missed opportunity that Mafia III: Definitive Edition hasn’t seemingly been improved upon, if you own the standard Mafia III from 2016 on PC, PS4 or Xbox One, you will be upgraded to the Definitive version at no extra cost.  Also, if you own any two of the three games and at some point wants to complete the trilogy in your collection, you will receive a discount via the in-game menus.  Additionally, if you own the standard Mafia II and Mafia III on Steam, you will get a Definitive Edition upgrade for free.

Mafia II and Mafia III: Definitive Edition’s are available now for PC (via Steam), PlayStation 4 and Xbox One with releases to the Epic Games Store and Google Stadia arriving at a later date.  While Mafia: Definitive Edition will release on August 28th.
