The Call of Duty: Modern Warfare multiplayer beta kicks-off this weekend and Activision has released details as to what to expected, as well as revealing a new gameplay trailer.  In the beta we’ll be able to play modes such as the 2v2 Gunfight, 6v6 Team Deathmatch, as well as other modes with larger player counts.  We’ve also been promised that we’ll sample new multiplayer gameplay mechanics to the series such as night vision, door breaching, bullet penetration, gun mounting and more.

The beta will take place over two (long) weekends starting from Thursday 6pm BST/10am PDT and will end the following Monday (concluding time to yet to be decided).

The opening beta will be exclusive to PS4 players from Thursday September 12th, to Monday, September 16th.  The first two days of the opening weekend from Thursday to Friday will only be open to those that have pre-ordered the game.  Then the following two days, Saturday to Monday will be available to all players with a PS+ subscription.

Then for weekend 2, running from Thursday, September 19th to Monday, September 23rd, the beta will be available for PC, PS4 and Xbox One players, and best of all, it will feature cross-play for all three platforms (if you choose).

During weekend 2, all PS4 players will get access, whether they have pre-ordered or not, but you will have to pre-order on PC or Xbox One if you want to start playing on Thursday, September 19th.  Then from Saturday, September 21st to Monday, September 23rd, all players across all three formats will be able to take part in the beta, regardless of your pre-order status.  PC players will need a account to play.

If you’ve not done so already, make sure that you redeem your beta code given from your retailer pre-order, so that you are good to go when the beta begins.  You will need to redeem the code here.  If you’ve pre-ordered Call of Duty: Modern Warfare digitally, you’ll already be set to download the beta via your formats storefront.

You’ll be able to pre-load the beta from this today on PS4 between 6pm-7pm BST/10am-11am PDT.  I imagine the pre-load for beta weekend 2 will be available at the same times on Tuesday, September 17th.  Also, if you’ve already taken part in the 2v2 Alpha from the other week, the beta is a separate file from the alpha, so it will require a new download.

Throughout the beta weekends, maps, playlists and other content will change during the tests, and you’re advised to keep checking in on the Activision Blog for any beta updates.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare will release for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on October 25th.
