New Max Payne 3 Screenshots

Just when you thought our favourite ragged ex-detective couldn’t look any more badass, yesterday Rockstar Games released some new screenshots for Max Payne 3.

From the above and below screens you can gather a rough idea of how action packed the third instalment of the Max Payne series is going to be. It’s Max at his baldest, with explosions in the background and beard in tow.

The last two screens are different from the first two as they show a younger Max and highlights some slight Noire aspects of Max Payne 3.

Professor Genki invites you to Genkibowl VII in Saints Row: The Third’s latest DLC

Volition have released information that reveals the first mission-based DLC for Saints Row: The Third will in fact have your character take part in GenkiBowl VII, which sees you taking part in activities such as Sad Panda Skyblazing, Angry Tiger’s Apocalypse Genki, Sexy Kitten Yarngasm and Professor Genki’s own Super Ethical PR Opportunity.

So I’m thinking that the leader of the Saints has become a celebrity in Professor Genki’s Super Ethical Reality Climax show and thus has been invited to star in GenkiBowl VII. At least the press release seems to indicate this: “A genius in entertainment and mayhem, the man-cat Professor Genki has put together the most watched game show event on TV, Genkibowl VII. But every game show needs a star contestant, and Professor Genki has chosen the leader of the Saints. With the Saints’ reputation for excessive murder and carnage, Steelport’s own Zach and Bobby (of Murderbrawl fame) will give the play-by-play commentary with their newest colleague, Tammy Tolliver.”

Professor Genki and his show was one of the biggest highlights of Saints Row: The Third, so no one can complain about receiving more Genki filled (murder) goodness. You can check out the screenshots below and the trailer to see what’s in store for the Third Street Saints.

And remember kids: Murder Time, Fun Time

Play Mass Effect 3 Exactly How You Want To

An obvious sentence don’t you think? After all, Mass Effect has always been big on player choice, often drastically changing events and outcomes, but Mass Effect 3 is set to allow you to alter how the game itself progress. Upon starting the game you will be given the option of choosing to play an “RPG”, “Story” or “Action” game.

“RPG” will be what everyone is already familiar with, the standard Mass Effect experience. “Story” will radically drop the difficulty of the combat sections, allowing players to focus on the conversations and immerse themselves in the vast universe. “Action” will cause the game to automate the conversations and choices, transforming the game into a standard shooter.

Personally I’ll be sticking with “RPG” and cranking up the difficulty, how about you?

Sony Sells 3.9 Million PS3s between November and December 2011

Sony had a bit of a fiasco last year, to put it lightly. The hacking scandal caused a lot of consumers to become wary of the Playstation brand, and potentially turned off a lot of potential buyers. Yet still, between November and December last year 3.9 million consoles were sold. Just goes to show how much a price drop and such a strong software line-up can do.

And what a strong software line up it has been, with more great games getting HD re-releases, and exclusives like Uncharted 3. Couple this with the fact that more and more people are entering the realm of Blu-Ray with the PS3 and Sony are well on track to hitting their 15 million target for the end of the fiscal year (March 31st). Long Live Play!

Return to the Homefront in Ultimate Edition

THQ’s latest release schedule has revealed the existence of “Homefront Ultimate Edition“. The near-future first-person shooter from now defunct Kaos Studios released back in 2011 with much hype, but unfortunately failed to deliver on almost every level. Nothing much has been revealed about what this edition will consist of, but the inclusion of the two previously released map packs (‘The Rock’ and ‘Firesale’).

To be honest, unless they completely re-work the game and double the length of the campaign having the word “ultimate” anywhere near Homefront is bordering on false advertising. It was a game that had a lot of promise, and had me excited to join the resistance, but then let me down in so many ways. Although re-releasing a game that’s based upon the premise of the death of Kim Jong-Il so soon after his death might be some sort of marketing ploy. Shame the year it had him die was wrong and as such as drifted into the yet-to-have-a-good-game genre of alternate history, forever to shelved next to the just as bad (if not worse) Turning Point Fall of Liberty…

Assassin’s Creed Revelations Travels to the Mediterranean

Assassin’s Creed multiplayer is a strange beast. Nobody asked for it, then in brotherhood we got it and we loved it. Revelations expanded the concept even further with new gametypes, enhanced gameplay and general tweaking to make the experience better overall. To keep players happy the multiplayer side is about to get its second set of DLC – The “Mediterranean traveller map pack”.

Combining three new maps and three classic maps from brotherhood, fans will be able to stalk each other through Jerusalem, the Constantinople Imperial District, the Dyers mercantile district, Firenze, San Donato, and night time Sienna.

Personally I was hoping for some single player expansion, as with the missing chapters from AC2, or the DaVinci disappearance from Brotherhood. Should you wish to pick up this map pack though it will be available for 800 MSPoints or $9.99 (about £6.50, so expect £6.99) on all platforms January 24th.

Max Payne 3 Screens Celebrate the New Year with Sun and Explosions

2011 Game of the Year awards are still coming in, yet here in 2012 we’re gearing up for games that are no doubt going to be nominated for next year. One of these games is Max Payne 3, and if the three most recent screenshots are anything to go by, it’s looking to be a good chance indeed.

Each shows off a different aspect of what we can expect from the third entry in the seminal noir action game. The first shows of the controversial change in setting and character for Max, swapping the dark snow swept street of “Noir York City” for the sun bleached favelas of Brazil. Payne himself has also changed, from leather coat cop to bald headed badass.

Next up, we can catch a glimpse of the new cover system, another controversial feature some believe may detract from the previous entries bullet-time ballet.

Finally Rockstar and Max have seen in the new year like everyone else – with a visually pleasing explosion, although on a very different level to the usual fireworks.

Max Payne 3 is looking to be one of the first must-have games of a very interesting year and will be available for PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 March 2012.
