Romance of course seeks to answer these questions and this is the primary failing at the heart of Goodbye First Love, a Gallic-German-Danish co-production that delivers plenty of flesh but paradoxically no passion. There is definitely the appearance of such, but never any investment. Romance like all drama must have an impetus for the lovers to be together, GFL (no acronym? There is now) manages half of this in that the lovers are separated, but beyond lust there is no reason to unite them. As a result we’re forced to endure extended sequences of what is ultimately petting, bookended by the pretence of finding ‘the one’ (unless sentinels are involved, never invoke that numeric signifier, ever).

We’re introduced from the off as we meet our lovers already in the midst of their relationship, the film is prompt in its endeavours to separate them but shoots itself in the foot as the two are reunited, constantly. Even when Camille (Lola Créton) winds up knocking boots with her hip architecture tutor, you’re just enduring the minutes until she finds her way back to Sullivan (Sebastian Urzendowsky). As for the two of them as a couple? Lola is passive-aggressive and needy whilst Sullivan is glib and trite. You’ll be hard pressed to relate to a pair of bland shoo-ins like these, whether or not you’ll be able to tolerate Sullivan’s drippy assertions of his affections or Lola’s irrational on-off proclivities. There is probably something in here to be said about the lack of control in adolescent romance, or indeed the illogicality of love in general but we still need something to grasp on to. Beyond a series of romantic interludes with all the depth of an Abercrombie and Fitch advert.

Based on this exercise in drivel, arthouse cinema at this point seems to have given up on breaking mainstream codas and has given into its very own clichés. That ‘hip architecture tutor’, well, the moment he starts wittering on about the semantic duality of ‘glimmer’ you know who Lola is going to be swooning over. That is of course, if the aforementioned swooning registered on any level. Instead the cast stumble around looking dejected, where is the charisma? Is romance so melancholy that nobody can even muster a smile? Obviously if the minimalist approach has any overriding influence here, it’s obviously Robert Bresson’s work is writ large here. Here’s the problem, Bresson may have roped amateurs into his movies without commanding so much as a wince from them, but he gave them objectives (see Pickpocket) to perform. The line reading may have been stilted, but the physical actions the ‘actor-models’ (confused? Google is your best friend here) performed told the story. Film is a visual medium, actions define character: action is drama. Drama equals incentive! (dammit).

Artsy or not, there’s only so much quasi-philosophy one can be smothered with, even in this niche. Did it ever occur to director/scribe Mia Hansen-Løve that if Sullivan had a persona beyond an elegiac dweeb (chicks dig elegiac platitudes) then we may even like him? The many deficits raise so many questions that the result leaves you cold. This isn’t the one, move along.

The Weinstein Company has announced that Sin City 2, known officially as Frank Miller’s Sin City: A Dame to Kill For will be released on October 4th, 2013, The Playlist reports. Oscar winning William Monahan (known for The Departed) will write the script, and Robert Rodriguez aims to put the film into production this summer.

Jessica Alba and Mickey Rourke have been confirmed to reprise their roles from the original film, joining reprising actress Rosario Dawson (Gail), and considering Rourke’s character died in Sin City any of the original cast could return: perhaps Bruce Willis, Benecio del Toro or even Elijah Wood? Since Dwight McCarthy has a strong role in the original comic book, perhaps Clive Owen will return.

It is surprising that Rourke has decided to return after the complaints of the arduous make-up process to transform him into Marv, but perhaps there’s a great script by Monahan that has made it all worth it? We will find out in 2013.

Forza Horizon has been slowly shuffling into the view of the gaming media, and today we have our first glimpse at an in-game screenshot, as well as the official box art featuring the 2013 SRT Viper.

The teaser trailer (below) snuck out of Microsoft’s Spring Showcase earlier this year, and even though it didn’t feature any in-game footage of said title, it did aim to establish a look and feel to this extremely divergent spin-off from the core realistic racing series.

Coming this fall for Xbox 360, Forza Horizon combines the automotive thrills that Forza fans expect with a gorgeous open-road world that begs to be explored.

An Open-Road world? If it’s anything like Test Drive Unlimited, we should be in for a treat, especially since even though the studio behind Forza Horizon, Playground Studios (in collaboration with Turn 10), is a recent establishment, formed in 2009, their staff do include ex-staff from a number of studios including Bizarre Creations (PGR, Blur), Black Rock Studios (Pure, Spit/Second), Slightly Mad Studios (NFS: Shift) , Criterion Games (Burnout, NFS: Hot Pursuit), Rockstar North and Ubisoft Reflections (Driver) among others.

Well certainly be hearing more at Microsoft’s Press Conference at E3 2012 on June 4th.

The Metal Gear Solid Facebook page reports that the highly anticipated HD collection for the Playstation Vita will be arriving in North America on June 12th. No release date has yet been announced for Europe though, so check back when we know further information.

The HD collection comprises of Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty and Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater. Strangely though there is no Peace Walker, which is odd considering it was made for the handheld and could have utilised the Vita well.

For details on whats been added to the gameplay side of the collection, check out the video below:

The HD collection is currently out on both Playstation 3 and Xbox 360, both featuring Peace Walker as well as Snake Eater and Sons of Liberty. Check out the review for the console version right here.

Running for two weeks later this summer for the Xbox 360 and PS3, the multiplayer Beta for Far Cry 3 will be available to play if you manage to secure one of those ever elusive Codes!

In America, by purchasing Ghost Recon: Future Soldier from GameStop on launch (in addition to being part of their PowerUp Rewards Program) you’ll receive an invitation code you can redeem at http://www.gamestop.com/code. Head there on Ghost Recon launch day to validate your code for either the Xbox 360 or PS3. When the Beta does go live, you’ll receive the download code directly to your inbox.

This isn’t the only option however, since as per usual Facebook will be getting in on the game, offering up five-hundred Beta keys over at http://www.farcrygame.com/sweeps. Other options will also be available later through Ubi.com, farcrygame.com, along with partner social channels and community and media websites.

In the multiplayer beta, up to sixteen simultaneous players per match will have the opportunity to choose from six playable classes and will able to experience online action within multiple maps and modes – including the innovative Firestorm mode. Dozens of weapons with hundreds of upgrades and customizations will also be available. Gameplay includes teamplay-focused experiences with support points and weapons, as well as the ability for all classes to revive fallen teammates. Zip-lining, combat sliding, psyche gas and barrel bombs are just some of the gameplay elements that can be experienced when playing.

It was revealed yesterday in Japanese magazine Famitsu (translated by Gematsu) that Square Enix will not be indulging fans with its much-loved blast from the past any time soon. With its most recent endeavours falling short of fan expectation, reliving what is, to many, the best Fantasy of them all can only be a good idea. Surely?

Character designer Tetsuya Nomura disagrees and explains that “new titles take precedence. We work our hardest to make something that might be even better than Final Fantasy VII. The new Final Fantasy must overcome the Final Fantasy of the past.” Whilst the sentiment is there, it’s hard not to recognise that things haven’t really been the same for the beloved franchise in this generation of gaming.

For me, the stories have become convoluted and unengaging and the characters are now (almost universally) insufferable. With each new iteration, a bit more control seems to be taken away from the player and the experiences as a whole, are left lacking.

Square Enix needs to re-engage with the concepts that made their PS1 outings so seminal – they need the trip back to Midgar just as much as I do.

The majority of gamers are more than likely excited for GTA V and who can blame them, after all GTA games are for the most part masterpieces, but here are a list of things that I think GTA V could improve on from the last instalment in the series GTA IV

More Variety - Remember the bank robbery mission in GTA IV, who doesn’t. Let’s be honest, that was one of the highlights of the game since it was exciting, it was tense and above all else it was different. Most missions in GTA IV were based around driving or shooting, and sure so was the bank robbery, but name another game that has done it so well. The point is, every mission in GTA V should be like this, something that players have not experienced before.

Multiple story paths - GTA IV had one or two moments where you as Niko Bellic would have to make a big choice that would affect the game’s story, to a point, but it wouldn’t drastically change the outcome at the end. Imagine if it did and there were more of those choices, not only would it encourage multiple playthroughs, but it would also make us care more about the characters and what happens to them. Sure we remember Niko Bellic and cared about his progression as a character, and a few of his friends such as Jacob, but in the end the main focus was on Niko, and the decisions only impacted him. If there were multiple story paths maybe every character would be affected in one way or another.

Customisation - Nothing that I bought, either clothes or weapons, felt like mine, as I knew that thousands of people would have the same look as me. The character I control should feel like my character, and though I’m not saying copy Saints Row and have an insane amount of options when it comes to say clothing, it would be nice to have more control of my appearance. The same with weapons, it would be great to have a weapon like the AK-47 and put a scope on it, adapting a weapon to any situation that you find yourself in. It would also be great to see car customisation, similar to what was seen in Grand Theft Auto San Andreas, whereby you could hijack a car, take it to a place where you could change multiple aspects on how it looked visually, but maybe in GTA V it could be improved so that players can change the performance of the given vehicle.

Side Missions – GTA IV had some great side missions, such as assassinations and the random encounters you would have with certain NCP’s that would give you bizarre missions. I have no complaint here I just WANT TO SEE MORE!!!!

Fun – Now I’m not saying GTA IV wasn’t fun, but it was missing that over the top fun factor that could be found in Grand Theft Auto San Andreas, where you could just mess around and cause mayhem. Why not bring it back, but this time reward the player for it, just like in Saints Row The Third where you can get in a tank and just cause as much mayhem as you can in the time limit, whilst getting money for it. GTA IV was a serious game and I give it kudos for that, but sometimes we all just want to have some fun!

So there it is, if you guys can think of any more things you would love to see in GTA V then let us know in the comments below. For the latest rumours on GTA V click here.

GTA V is scheduled for release on the Xbox 360, PS3 and PC, though a date has yet to be confirmed.

Street Fighter X Tekken players have found a game breaking bug which has been produced by the new patch Capcom released.

Just when you thought things were getting fixed in Street Fighter X Tekken, people find something new that causes problems, this time one that actually causes the game to freeze. It’s very character and situation specific as it involves Rolento’s knife (via his Stinger special move) coming into contact with any form of fireball. This sucks for those who use Rolento as their main character but at least the rest of the cast is not affected and the patch did fix hit box issues and other glitches hampering the game.

Here is a video showing examples of when the game breaking bug causing Street Fighter X Tekken to freeze.

Shoryuken confirmed that the bug occurs on both the PlayStation 3 and the Xbox 360 versions after being updated to version 1.04.
