The Last Story Limited Edition Details Arise

Nintendo have announced an exclusive limited edition bundle coming for The Last Story , the latest action-packed RPG from legendary Hironobu Sakaguchi (founder of the Final Fantasy series), available exclusively on Wii across Europe from February 24th.

The limited edition The Last Story bundle will be available for pre-order while stocks last, featuring a copy of the game, an exclusive SteelBook cover decorated with stunning artwork, and a The Elements Of The Last Story package which includes The Premium Soundtrack CD and The Illustrations art booklet. The CD features a 7-track selection of music from the game composed by Nobuo Uematsu who has worked on many projects within the Final Fantasy series.

The Last Story adds a modern twist to the traditional RPG style, offering a strategic, real-time combat system and allowing you to customise your character and weaponry. By mastering a mysterious ability called The Gathering you will be able to help the main protagonist Zael and his band of mercenaries complete the many missions and battle vast bosses by discovering their weak spots and using teamwork to bring them down. The Last Story not only features a story-driven single player campaign, but also two online multiplayer modes, Deathmatch and Co-op, allowing you to battle against or alongside up to five other people across Europe.

Prince of Persia Jumps Its Way onto the 3DS and Wii

Nintendo’s eShop (along with Nintendo DSi shop and Wii Shop Channel) gets an update this week, and included for 3DS and Wii owners are the retro Prince of Persia games.

Depending on where you shop, you will get a different version of Prince of Persia. Those who browse the eShop will find the Game Boy Color version while those who check out the Wii Shop Channel will find the SNES version.

For DSi owners…Yeah you’re screwed as you get no Prince of Persia. On the plus side you get 40-in-1 Explosive Megamix and a cute looking tower defense game called Come On! Heroes. Okay so that’s not much of a consolation, especially with the former sounding like a huge waste of time. At least the latter seems to be charming with a cute visuals and hopefully an amusing story behind it.

You can check out the prices and descriptions below.

For those using Nintendo Video, you’ll be pleased to hear that:

“Available this week via Nintendo Video, is the next instalment of the Circus 3D series. Circus 3D is a series of clips which will transport you into a world of a real life circus and put you the viewer in the heart of the action wherever you may be. Take in a birds-eye view of an acrobat on parallel bars or feel like you are with the artists on stage through innovative points of views. Watch an aerial performance from the floor or the point of view from inside a cage with tigers. Circus 3D will offer you an exhilarating experience which immerses you into circus life as if you were actually there, all in 3D and in the palm of your hand.”

“Also available this week via Nintendo Video is a 3D clip courtesy of Red Bull, showcasing some of the world’s best skiers taking part in the Hahnenkamm race in Kitzbühel, Austria. From the Start all the way down to the finish, this unprecedented 3D clip provides a breathtaking insight into the toughest downhill ski race in the world.”

Review: The Legend of Zelda Skyward Sword

“You fight like no man or demon I have ever known. Though this is not the end. My hate… never perishes. It is born anew in a cycle with no end!”
— Demise

The Legend of Zelda franchise is perhaps one of the biggest out there. Many people would have heard of the legends such as Ocarina of Time, Majora’s Mask etc., and believed to follow this through until Link will finally rest and Zelda is no more in trouble. However that is not the case; Twenty fives years on and Link is still saving Zelda and defending his homeland from peril. The Latest installment to mark the 25th anniversary of this epic franchise is Skyward Sword. This game is set both on foot, on the earth, and in the sky in a town called Skyloft. Here is a brief summary to click you into the minds of the game!

Skyward Sword is the first in the Zelda series, which is then followed by Minish Cap and then Ocarina of Time. We follow the story of Demise, the origin of Ganon and the creation of the Master Sword. Hylia, the main Goddess, has previously had a battle with Demise and managed to seal him away, but not for long. We then move to Skyloft, which Hylia created. Link and Zelda are both childhood friends on this small island and peace is on the island. However things are shook when evil forces make Zelda fall below the cloud onto Hyrule, thus being in a completely new world. Link then follows, as Zelda is the one person whom he does not want to see in danger.

This game has brought about a new way to the style of playing Zelda games. We have the innovative Wii Motion controls, which make you feel as if you are Link himself, moving the sword at your own pace and striking the exact area you want. It also polishes on what Twilight Princess brought us, the aiming on the bow and arrow, the shaking of the nunchuk to roll, a lot of new things have been added to extend and progress the way the player controls Link. Throughout the story you will gain new and improved items to get through the story. You also have the option to upgrade your items back on Skyloft when you have collected the right amount of items, suck as the golden skulls or blobs from the jelly like creatures. Another new feature we get to play with is the motion control when flying. If you jump off a building or a high place, Link might go into the ‘belly flop’ mode, where he will land on a specific area. You can control Link using your Wii remote to get to the exact location you wish to land. You can also control Link’s bird in the game using the Wii remote. This vastly improves on the other games where you just used the joystick, when infact Skyward helps bring you closer to the mode of transport than the other games!

The graphics may be the only thing letting the game down, but nonetheless, it still looks beautiful and sleek. The graphics systems are not up to date compared to the 360 or PS3, but we all know that graphics are not what makes a game! Unless the game has a brilliant story, it is a pointless game, something to just play through and leave, never to be played again. On the other hand, one with such a story and graphics at the same time makes it to be something beautiful and out of this world, which is hard to come by these days. Zelda improves on the graphics with each game, this one taking a hybrid form of Wind Waker and Twilight Princess, which is something that we consider a wise move, as it works in this world of Skyloft and Hyrule!

We think that this is perhaps the greatest Zelda game out there, not forgetting the likes of Majora’s Mask and the Wind Waker, but it certainly is one to be considered as the greatest. It also helps push the Legend of Zelda franchise into a new direction; with the way we control Link and explore the lands of Hyrule! Nintendo have come out, again, with another top-notch game and perhaps one of the greatest games they have ever produced!

Mario Kart Wii reaches 28 million in sales

Nintendo have announced that Mario Kart Wii, the 8th Mario Kart game in the series, has sold a huge 28 million copies.

It’s no surprise really as aside from Mario Kart (and the Mario franchise as well) being a huge powerhouse, Mario Kart Wii is the perfect Mario Kart (aside from Mario Kart Super Circuit in my opinion), due to being accessible to everyone and just down right fun, even if the blue shells can make things miserable.

The release of Mario Kart 7 for the Nintendo 3DS on 2nd December (Europe) and 4th December (North America) should see the Mario Kart series continue it’s very successful run.

Note: I haven’t played Mario Kart 7, but out very own Daniel Pepper has and you can check out his excellent review right very soon.

Note 2: If your wondering why I said “Mario Kart Wii, the 8th Mario Kart game in the series” and not “the 6th Mario Kart game in the series*, it is because Nintendo also released two Mario Kart Arcade machines.
