To No Surprise, Shenmue III Gets Delayed
Well to yet another lack of surprise to anyone, Shenmue III has been delayed again. When it was announced in 2015, it was scheduled to release in 2017, but nobody really expected that to happen. So in 2017, it was then announced that Shenmue III would be delayed and will release sometime during the second half of 2018. However, yet again, I think that while many of us remained hopeful, we we’re also very sceptical that Shenmue III would even get a release this year.
So with all of that said, Deep Silver has announced that Shenmue III is to suffer another delay, this time until 2019. The reasons for the delay were for the usual extra polish and what not, here’s what the publisher had to say on the delay “Shenmue III has been moved and will now release in 2019. The extra time will be used to polish the quality of the game even further; to the high standards it deserves and release the product in the best possible timeframe. ”
Lead developer at Ys Net, Yu Suzuki also added his input “To all of our backers, we are very sorry for the delay. After much discussion with our partners, Deep Silver, we have concluded that extending the release will allow us to deliver Shenmue III at its best. We promise to use this time to improve the quality of Shenmue III.”
While another delay is disappointing, I think that we can all agree that we want Shenmue III to be the best game it can be, so the delay is only for the good of the game. Just imagine if it did release unfinished, surely Shenmue III would go down as one of the biggest failures in recent times. Plus we’ve waited long enough for this game to arrive anyway, so an extra 7-12 months won’t kill anyone.
At least on the plus side, this delay will give us plenty of time to get through the Shenmue Collection which is set to release this year for PC, PS4 and Xbox One, assuming the collection doesn’t get delayed also.
Shenmue III will release for PC and PlayStation 4 next year (and probably Xbox One sometime later).
