20th Century Fox video game division FoxNext has acquired development studio Cold Iron Studios and their first project will be to work on a new shooter based within the Alien cinematic universe.  The studio based in San Francisco has a wealth of talent within the studio that has worked on key shooters such as Borderlands, Doom, BioShock: Infinite and more.

CEO at Cold Iron Studios has highlighted the fact that the team will work within their strengths, which not only means the likelihood of being a shooter, but also possibly MMO aspects as some of the team has also worked on the likes of Star Trek Online and the Neverwinter series.  Craig Zinkievich said ”Our background in building online worlds and taking established franchises to the next level in interactive entertainment is a precise fit with our product roadmap ahead,”  While FoxNext’s Aaron Loeb stated that their new game will be “an action-packed persistent world, steeped in the mysteries of this beloved Alien universe,

No other details were revealed at this time, so it remains to be seen whether this will be a First-Person or Third Person Shooter and will it be an MMO or something along the lines of Destiny of The Division?

Personally as long as it stays fresh and away from the tone of Colonial Marines, but captures at least some of the essence of horror known in the franchise and especially Alien: Isolation, then I’ll be happy.  But in saying that, having a galaxy to explore with friends to research uncharted planets with dangers such as the Xenomorphs and more, sounds very appealing to me.  However, seeing as Alien 5 (directed by Neil Blomkamp) was rumoured to be scrapped by Ridley Scott’s doing, which was said to continue Ellen Ripley’s story on Earth and would even star a grown-up Newt, which could also be a very appealing route to take for the video game.

We do know that when this game releases, it will be for the PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.  As always, we’ll update you should we hear more.
