Top 10 Music Games
From every high to every low, from every chord to every note music games make the party. From Alvin and The Chipmunks to Rock Band, we have a look at our top 10.
10. Just Dance
Released this year for the Nintendo Wii system we saw a dancing game like no other. Often criticised for its control system the game offered something different from other music games. Whereas most music games are based around playing the music this game focused on the dancing and although it did not do very well at least it offered a change.
9. Alvin and The Chipmunks (DS)
Released simultaneously with the first movie, this game was a musical hit on the DS. Covering songs from several different bands including Blink-182, The Chipmunks rocked out on the dual screens. The game involved prompted screen touching to keep up with the beat. Definitely a entertaining game.
8. Guitar Hero On Tour
Released for the Nintendo DS, the game came with an innovative guitar attachment that plugged into the side of the DS. The series finally became fully portable! With songs from great bands like Incubus the game was a hit. Definitely worth getting.
Equipped with Singstar mics you become invincible. I actually use them to record the Push-Start podcasts. The game was massive for pop hits. With constant downloadable packs from PSN the game pushed the boundaries of singing games. A classic amongst the music games, however a bigger variety of different genres would have been nice.
6.Guitar Hero 5
Dire Straights and Kurt Cobain. What more do you want from a music game? The classic Guitar Hero gameplay was there along with arguably the best soundtrack to date. A classic in the gaming world for sure.
5. Disney Sing it Pop Hits
Featuring music from Demi Lovato, The Jonas Brothers, Coldplay and Taylor Swift the game offered something for everything. Along with complete music videos the game was a Christmas hit. Still selling well today it’s worth getting a copy.
4. DJ Hero
Something for all those people who aren’t that big on rock music. The deck controller worked fantastically. With a great soundtrack that mixed several artists like Gwen Stefani and The Gorilaz in a single song you couldn’t help but get hyped over this title.
3. Band Hero
Another attempt to reach out to other audiences. With songs from Taylor Swift and being massively endorsed by the singer, the game had massive success. Sometimes its quite relaxing to come away from the heavy rock of titles like Guitar Hero and do some gentle rocking to more pop like songs.
2. Rock Band 2
The series that started the whole band. The first one pushed the boundaries by giving us more than just guitars, I’m talking the full set up of mic’s and drums. The second game massively expanded on the song list by adding Rise Against and other great artists to the list.
1.Guitar Hero 3: Legend of Rock
Widely regarded as the best of the series. Were talking the songs that defined rock all tightly compacted into one game! With a storyline that was actually kinda funny and a guitar battle with the devil this game could not be beat and hello you could play as Slash! Definitely the top music game.
Let me know your list. I can promise it will be posted to the site and maybe even discussed on the podcast! Comment below or email me at email@example.com.
