Namco Bandai Games revealed on Monday that their 3DS-exclusive tactical RPG based on the rosters of Namco, Capcom and SEGA, Project X Zone, will be released in the European market this summer. The game was originally released in Japan during October of last year.

Fans have been clamouring for this translation of the game by Banpresto and Monolith Soft. Monolith were the developers of Xenoblade Chronicles which was one of the most celebrated JRPGs of recent times. With support from the likes of Harada from TEKKEN Project, this localisation is the result of a lot of effort convincing Namco Bandai that it would be worth their while, so I dearly hope they won’t be proven wrong.

On the wealth of character variety available to this project alone – NBGI boasts over 50 playable characters from 29 franchises – Project X Zone seems like a good fit for any fanservice-hungry fan of these fine Japanese developers. Gameplay pits characters in pairs, such as Jin and Xiaoyu from Tekken, and puts them against various foes to close a rift in space-time (AKA the MacGuffin that connects almost every crossover game).

The action looks hectic for a strategy RPG in some screens, but more like a traditional RPG in others, so it remains to be seen how it will play out. NBGI detail quite a few methods of attack in their press release, so don’t expect a straightforward gameplan for this one.
