NBA Alive and Ballin’
You may think that new exclusive Kinect release NBA Baller Beats involves the usual whole body movement recognition set to a popular soundtrack and you’d be correct, BUT there is also a real ball involved. Real. Ball.
NBA Baller Beats is designed to get the user up and on their feet, living the life and performing like a pro. Jesse Sutton, Chief Executive Officer of Majesco Entertainment claims that, “NBA Baller Beats introduces an unprecedented way to experience basketball through a video game like never before.” Jesse goes on to explain that the “Kinect technology puts the ball in players’ hands, tracking both full-body gameplay and ball movement.” If the Kinect technology is able to accurately pick up the movement, I think it could be a very popular idea, inspiring further Kinect releases.
The game not only sees you perform like a real NBA star, but during the course of ball games you unlock songs, difficulty levels, and over 100 posters and trading cards that showcase NBA players’ and their greatest moves. There is a mode called ‘Move School’ that allows you to break down moves giving you the chance to perfect them. The game also includes a multiplayer mode that gives you the opportunity to slam dunk up to 8 players, highest score wins.
The soundtrack includes a mix of genres and artists and the roster currently consists of; Kanye West, Run DMC, Gorillaz, Them Crooked Vultures, Common and Tiesto. Combining the element of basketball with music is an interesting concept, and hopefully when NBA Baller Beats drops later this year on Kinect, i’ll see you on the court.
