It’s time for all you film lovers to have a vote. As you may be aware, Avatar currently holds the record as the highest grossing film of all time with $2,782,275,172. The upcoming Dark Knight Rises could topple this record however, as it’s certainly the most highly anticipated film of the year, if not of all time. If you don’t think so then maybe you should check out this trailer again:

But what do you guys think? Do you think The Dark Knight Rises could topple Avatar? Let us know by voting in the polls.

There’s just no chance of this happening.

The Avengers, arguably as anticipated as TDKR, hasn’t even broke 2 billion yet and it had IMAX 3D, 3D, and regular cinemas; just like AVATAR did.

TDKR isn’t showing in 3D or IMAX 3D, so they won’t have the ticket prices to match the sales. It’s not a lesson in which movie is better, it’s a lesson in economics of the film community.

TDKR will do fantastic, but it will not beat Avatar.

I’m not saying that it’s a case of whats the better movie, I’m saying its a case of the dark knight rises being a highly anticipated film maybe more so than avatar. If more people are excited for the dark knight rises then more will see it. It’s not a case of if its showing in 3D or not, sales for 2D are often higher than 3D anyway so that really doesn’t matter.

We will just have to wait and see won’t we.

The sales are only higher because of the theatre dispersion. There are more 2D cinemas than 3D and IMAX ones. The point stands though: IMAX 3D and regular 3D tickets are more expensive than regular tickets, and as much as some people complain, they’re still plenty successful. 8 of the 10 highest grossing films ever were presented in 3D.

As much as I adore Nolan and his TDK trilogy, (i have tickets to a marathon leading up to TDKR at midnight) I just don’t think they have the ability to match the sales of AVATAR.
