Robert Redford

Screen legend Robert Redford is in talks to appear as a senior S.H.I.E.L.D. member (possibly stepping into Coulson’s shoes?) in Marvel sequel Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Deadline reports. He’ll be leading the group alongside Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson), watching over ol’ ‘Cap’ himself, Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) as he adjusts to modern day life. However, the reappearance James “Bucky” Barnes (Sebastian Stan) forces Rogers to face his past.

Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely return from Captain America: The First Avenger to pen The Winter Soldier, and hopefully they’ll bring with them more of the drama that made The First Avenger one of the best Marvel instalments yet, and avoid the overpowering emphasis on one-liners of Avengers Assemble. They have also scripted Thor: The Dark World, due later this year.

Anthony and Joe Russo are helming The Winter Soldier. Let’s hope they’ve moved on from the days of You, Me and Dupree.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier arrives in the UK in 2D and 3D on April 4th 2014.
