Jonah Hill delves further into his dramatic side following his Oscar nomination for Moneyball as he joins Leonardo DiCaprio in The Wolf of Wall Street, a new film by iconic director Martin Scorsese, Empire reports. The film is based on an autobiographical novel by Jordan Belfort, adapted into a script by Terence Winter. It follows Hill as Danny Porush, a furniture salesman, who is persuaded by Belfort (DiCaprio) to enter the world of stock brokering. Together they rose into wealth on Wall Street in the 1990s, but Belfort fell into substance abuse and eventually, jail for fraud and financial corruption. Production is due to begin in New York this August.

Scorsese is one of the best crime thriller directors in the business, and will surely deliver a fantastic film with the calibre of talent already cast. This will be an interesting comparison to the classic Oliver Stone film Wall Street, which saw Charlie Sheen’s character Bud Fox’s rise to fame as a stockbroker with mentoring from his hero Gordon Gekko (Michael Douglas).

The film is due for release in 2013.
