Skullgirls Story Mode trailer shows there’s more to the game then just fanservice

For their upcoming fighting game Skullgirls, Autumn Games have revealed a Story Mode trailer to show off the single player aspects and hopefully showcase that it will be as much fun as the mutiplayer.

One of the new fighting games on the block that is attempting to muscle in on the fighting game scene dominated by the likes of Street Fighter, Tekken, BlazBlue and Soul Calibur, Skullgirls has been getting some hype ever since an early build was previewed. Now for those of us who like their fighting game to have some decent story we can check out the Skullgirls Story Mode Trailer.

In the story mode, you’ll encounter more then just the eight playerable female warriors, as friends and foes, as well as much of the backstory of the playable characters, will be revealed via short vignettes which will be “showcasing more than 200 pieces of unique art and new music.”

A new trailer for Skullgirls, the upcoming downloadable 2D fighting game from Autumn Games, is available today. Offering a sneak peak at the Story Mode, the trailer provides a glimpse of the seven announced playable characters and elements of how they fit into the game’s backstory. And to add some nice variety (and longevity) there are “what if” scenarios, different to the “true canonical story” which take place in alternate timelines.

The trailer is very slick and I do love the posters that represent each of the following ladies. Hopefully Autumn Games will sell them as postcards or posters.

In addition to the deep Story Mode, Skullgirls also has the following modes:

  • Arcade Mode
  • Robust tutorials
  • Practice Room
  • Ranked and unranked Online Play
  • Custom soundtrack

It’s nice to see Skullgirls coming along very nicely. The backgrounds now have a lot of life to them where as before they felt static, there is obviously a lot of love and labour going in to make different types of fighting fans happy and beneath the fan service, it looks like a very in-depth fighting game. Maybe we’ll see it in a EVO tournament sometime soon.
