Seth ‘Freakin’ Rollins has been announced as the WWE 2K18 cover star as he will be taking the mantle from last year’s Brock Lesnar.  This year’s tagline is “Be Like No One” as 2K “invites players to explore Rollins’ identity, as well as those of several other WWE Superstars,” So does this mean that we’ll see the return of a Superstar focused singleplayer campaign?  In my opinion, this would be a welcomed return, especially as WWE 2K17 had removed the Showcase mode from the base game and sold it as DLC.  They made a big thing out of the Universe and MyCareer modes, but for those that preferred a linear narrative on key WWE Superstars, last year’s game felt lacking somewhat in that department.

In full on promo mode, Seth Rollins had this to say on him featuring as this year’s cover star “As the WWE 2K18 cover Superstar and franchise ambassador, it is my incredible honor and mission to ensure this game will truly BE LIKE NO ONE – a calling card perfect for everything I stand for – as it sets forth on its own unique path,” said Seth Rollins. “Following in the footsteps of other WWE 2K cover Superstars – Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, John Cena, Stone Cold Steve Austin and Brock Lesnar – I now carry the torch and proudly represent a new generation of WWE Superstars. I am the future, and the future can’t be stopped.

Additionally, various editions of the game were announced and with it came a set release date or I should say, release dates. Available at launch will be standard and Deluxe editions of the game, both in physical and digital form.  There will also be a physical Collector’s Edition, with its details set to be announced at a later date.

Each edition of the game will also come with pre-order DLC (TBC), with the Deluxe Edition coming with a season pass.  While we don’t know all the contents to be included in the Collector’s Edition, we do know that it will include the base game, pre-order DLC, a season pass and “exclusive physical collectibles”.  It’s a safe bet that we’ll get a figurine of some sort, so it will be interesting to see who that will be.  Personally, I love the idea of Charlotte Flair with her Peacock Robe in figurine form.

Also, it was a revealed that those that pre-order the Deluxe Edition (physical or digital) or the Collector’s Edition, will be granted with “early access” for the game “before its worldwide release date”.  I’m not a fan of this pre-order to get “early access” business. In an ideal world, it would be great if we could get our games on the same date, regardless of the version pre-ordered.

It also now seems that the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of the game has now been ditched, but let’s be honest, it’s been a longtime coming and to be fair to 2K, they’ve supported the last-gen consoles in recent years longer than many other publishers have.

WWE 2K18 is set for a worldwide release date of Tuesday October 17th for PS4 and Xbox One or Friday October 13th for those that pre-order the Deluxe or Collector Edition’s.

I recently wrote an article on what I’d like to see in this year’s WWE 2K18, it will be interesting from a personal perspective to see if any of that comes true.
